I developed my colour appreciation through Monet's pieces. It suddenly hit me why this almost blind guy who couldn't even draw a little bridge over a pond in perspective, was probably the greatest artist ever. It was his colours, although he couldn't see the fine details, he saw the most amazing colours perfectly.
If we look at an image of a red barn on a dowby muddy field on a grey day it does nothing for us, but the same barn in a field of corn on a sunset orange evening would blow us a way. These are the colours and not the images that Monet captured.
